Collective Meow

A few years ago a gentleman named Faubio and I went to a Collective Soul show and got a chance to ‘meet and greet’, which was every body standing in a horsehoe along wall of the green room while the band looped around shaking hands, signing autographs and politely chatting nonsense to fans. I made a mention about a middle finger and listening to the lead singer calling into Howard Stern, he smiled and shook my hand again and that was that. I’m not sure Faubio is real to this very day, but I do genuinely remember that hand shake. This video reminds me of that day and is very kewt >^-^<

Assholes in Music

I listened to some Buzum back a few years ago and really liked it; reminded me of the creepy atmospheric music in ‘Quake’ and the music I hear when I’m in a bad mood. Later I watched the documentary ‘Until the Light Takes Us’ about Norwegian death metal and much to my distress Varg Vikernes, the mastermind of Burzum, was a quasi neo Nazi (although I don’t think he says he is anymore), plotted to blow up a left-wing building in Oslo, and killed a former bandmember.

I still don’t see why people like Kanye West or call his songs ‘important’ but his contribution to the otherwise terrible song ‘Mercy’ is pretty catchy.

Both are assholes for unique and different reasons, yet I go back listening. Sometimes I wonder if meeting any of my favorite musicians would diminish my respect for them, but I will probably never reach that point and shouldn’t worry.
